Our History

Founded in 1956, Our Lady of Peace Catholic School has been a cornerstone of faith-based education in North Augusta, South Carolina, for nearly seven decades. Established under the Diocese of Charleston, the school began with a strong spiritual and academic foundation, originally staffed by the Franciscan Sisters and dedicated lay teachers.

Our school’s roots are closely tied to the parish community of Our Lady of Peace, which was officially established in 1944 to serve the growing Catholic population in the area. The parish church was constructed in a traditional Spanish architectural style, symbolizing the warmth and strength of its mission. By 1951, the parish had begun offering religious instruction on-site, and by 1954, a dedicated school building with four classrooms had been completed. This facility quickly expanded to meet the needs of the community, growing to eight classrooms by 1955.

With the first full academic year beginning in 1956, Our Lady of Peace School emerged as a nurturing environment where children could grow intellectually, morally, and spiritually. Over the years, the school has maintained a strong tradition of academic excellence, faith formation, and service—preparing students to become compassionate, responsible leaders.

Today, we continue to honor our rich legacy by offering a Christ-centered education to students in grades K3 through 8, remaining committed to developing the whole child—mind, body, and spirit.
